"... the program leads involved parents to become partners and created space for us to lead and share our experiences and expertise."
"The people at MAAN are not just helpers. They are friends. They are family. They have helped me feel free from my old ideas. I want others to feel free too."
“...I connected with an advocate that helped me with school concerns and now my kid received appropriate services from the school through this project. My kid’s education is now better than ever before.”
“Before I didn’t know what autism was but now, because of this program, I recognize new things and take my child to the doctor when I see new things and recognize it."
“Before it was uncomfortable because there’s a stigma against disabilities and it was taboo to ask for help even for me. But now in this group, I have other mothers who go through the same thing as me and I have a community where I can speak up about my Child's disability and get the help we need.”
“I am really surprised to find that there are people in my community who have children with disabilities and have found ways to access services, but they never talk about it. They never talk about their children. They never talk about what they have been able to find. MAAN makes it OK to talk about what we have found and what we need. Before MAAN I never met people who would share information.”
“I didn’t know any other people who had children with disabilities. I thought I was the only one that needed help. But now I know there are a lot of people that have children with disabilities...I told a lot of other parents about the group and encouraged them to come. I feel like my community did not accept children with disabilities before, but now I know people who are like our family.”
